Thanksgiving #19

I know I just mentioned friends but one friend I need to give an entire post to...Wayne-O. Wayne has been a friend of mine for 9 years now I think. Over this time he has been my friend getting me through the good and bad. We have been lucky enough for our families to get to know each other as well. We have traveled as families together and that's what we have become, a big family.
Wayne actually is who helped me get into genealogy. He asked me to help him out with some of his family tree and it turned into my obsession. I know his family tree as well as my own because of this. His family has allowed us to do the Temple work for their ancestors, another part of why we have such a wonderful friendship.
Yep, I am thankful for Wayne-O

Lila's 80th Birthday

Growing up we used to go to a family reunion every July for my grandma's family. We didn't know any of my grandpa's family then one day he died. His sister and cousins came to the cemetery and now we know them. Last weekend we went to my grandpa's cousin's 80th birthday party. (My first cousin twice removed.) It was fun. The dood and I were discussing how young we felt there and how great his parents are doing. (They turned 87 last week.)Just add it up to one more thing that has kept me from blogging lately.

Hair-Looms

For those of you that don't know, my grandma's maiden name was Hair. We have had a long running "joke" (if you want to call it that) about things being Hairlooms rather than Heirlooms.
Today I had a really neat experience with my Hair genealogy. I have not worked on genealogy probably all summer. I have just had other things to do and sometimes I get so overwhelmed with what I am working on that I need to stop and take a break.
A few weeks ago, maybe even more than a month ago, I received an email from a guy in Australia asking for some information on this Hair line. (hahaha no pun intended) I have my family tree on ancestry.com BUT it is private. Most people that ask for information I ask them what they are specifically looking for and I never hear from them again. This guy wrote back to me. I wrote to him a few times and yesterday I finally sent him some information. I didn't have what he was looking for as he has come to a dead end right about where I had. I actually had one further generation back but still, not very much information. I was able to send him the personal history of his great great grand-uncle and a photo. This had all the information I had used to find out where his parents had lived and were buried. He was VERY specific on where his mother was buried like under this tree near this rock etc. I hope someday to get to England and check it out. (It is a bit further north than where I went when I was there.)
Anyway~ I sent this to the Australian "Cousin" and he wrote back to me thanking me. Saying that it was more than he could have ever hoped for in research. I have learned that you just don't find a person's personal history when doing research very often. It usually needs to come from someone. I am very lucky in that my grandma had a lot of information this way. Her sister, my great aunt who never married spent a lot of time working in the genealogy library. All of her information was also passed on to me. (When I was 13 I spent a few nights with her. She had to work so she took me to the library with her. I was able to roam and search through anything I wanted. It was pretty cool being able to read those really old books.)
Included are photos of this specific ancestor and his second wife. They were both Pioneers who came to Utah from England. I am thinking that I might need to start up on all this again.
Yes they are buried right next to the bathroom. It is great for Memorial Day to be able to make an easy pit-stop. It makes it even easier to find their headstone. (Which my grandma actually had placed in 1998. Until then, they were in an unmarked grave.)
