Last week I started telling people at work that I am pregnant. Most seemed to be over joyed for me. One actually laughed. Let's just not talk about that one.
The next reaction from so many was "Oh so you are over the worst." I get that mostly from men BUT I do get it from 80% of the people I tell. Let me tell you my blog readers -
NO I am NOT over the worst! I am just as bad as I was 3 weeks ago. In fact week 11-12 was
THE worst week yet. I don't know why people think that 12 weeks is a magical number that means suddenly I feel fantastic. Those hormones are still running rampant. I am still throwing up. I am still tired. My tolerance for people is still very low.
Let me tell you a few other things I have learned from my doctor's visits
- Most woman actually have "morning sickness" until between weeks 14 and 16. Some it continues through ALL of pregnancy.
- When it comes to pregnancy symptoms in general - all women have something. They might have all they might have one but there is always something. If you were to make a list of ones that I might have by now, I would check off pretty much every single one.
- Every single woman's uterus is tilted. Some it is tilted forward, some back but it is EVERY one. Because of this there are different problems. I happened to have mine sit on my sciatic nerve for a week. Then it moved to my tail bone. Yep, I am that cool to have both problems.
- 12 weeks is really not a magical date for miscarriages. It is actually hearing the baby's heartbeat. Most people don't hear it until their 12 week check up with the Doppler. I heard the heart beat at 5 weeks and 5 days which took my chance of miscarriage to 2% on that date - not 7 weeks later. (We have heard the heart beat now 5 times)
- The placenta starts taking over the production of hormones during weeks 11-12. This can cause spotting and LOTS of cramping. (You can still freak out and call your doctor. They are really nice even after hours while you cry hysterically on the phone.)
So there you go. If I seem tired/grumpy/stressed still you know...I am not past the magic of the first trimester illness.
