Clueless

A few weeks ago I was pulling the eggs out of the carton to put into the container in the fridge. I said, Hey Rick, these eggs are white. (In contrast to the brown eggs we usually purchase.) His response was, "You didn't notice that at the store when you checked them?" Nope I sure didn't!

Day 28

A photo of what I ate today... I had these chippies. I was hoping for some salt and vinegar or Maui onion but neither were available. These worked well though.

GO PACKERS!

For those that weren't sure, we are Packer fans in our house. There is a story as to why. When Rick was 5 years old, his parents gave him a Packer's uniform. For him it was the coolest thing ever. We still have the helmet. Needless to say that the Super Bowl this year was a BIG event in our home. Rick had been wearing his Packer tie to church for weeks and even now he still has been wearing it in celebration. (I can't find a Jeff Gordon or ReAl Salt Lake tie.)
For watching the game of course we had to have some game food. Notice the Packer cup? I don't have any other photos of the day. Not really sure why. Maybe because I was too busy yelling at the tv. For as much as Rick loves the Packer's I hate the Steelers. They are my #1 disliked team in the NFL. We had a great time watching the Packers beat the Steelers. (mmm now I'm hungry for some game/race day food)

Weekend Getaway

A few weekends ago we went to Park City for a break. We stayed at the Escala Lodges at The Canyons.

It is always entertaining to go to The Canyons aka Wolf Mountain aka Park West. Rick and I both remember it as a mud pit.

In fact, Rick's family had a home at the base the same time I was skiing there a few times a week. (Once again how close our paths came before they finally came together.) ANYWAY -

We have a wonderful weekend of relaxing, good food and lots of shopping!

Bountiful Basket #2

I have only purchased 2 Bountiful Baskets They are only available in my area every 2 weeks and last week we decided not to purchase one. We are throwing out a ton of food really. Reason #1 cause it is just too much for only 2 of us. reason #2 there is some stuff we just won't eat.
For our second week this is what we received:
2 heads romaine lettuce
1 watermelon
6 plums
7 peaches
1 brocliflower
2 English cucumbers
1 bag Yukon gold taters
1 back black seedless grapes
bananas
2 tomatoes
6 ears corn
and a pineapple

Of the things we did eat, they were great! Again though, I wish they did local.

New Recipes

Rick and I are trying to eat healthier food. Last week I made some tostada thing that was pretty good. I forgot to take a photo. This week I made Linguine with Garlicky Breadcrumbs. Well I started with the recipe and tweeked it to fit what I had on hand, which included fresh basil. It was incredible! Even the next day...just don't mix the bread crumbs in until you are ready to eat. Mine was made with whole wheat thin spaghetti. I actually prefer whole wheat pasta. MMM this is making me hungry just thinking about it.

Closest Retail

I was able to catch this as we came around the corner. The closest retail to me is this little strip mall. There is a pizza place here that is awesome. The Kraver's place has ok food but TERRIBLE shakes. They had no flavor. But sometimes something is better than driving 5 miles to go to McDonald's, the next closest food.

Virg's The Original

Some of you might have noticed the Virg's restaurant in Taylorsville in the Frontier Pies old building (south of the Old Spaghetti Factory). Well Saturday night we went to the first Virg's. It is just down the road from us...a few miles. I had to take some photos of the place. All cover ops style. The food was decent but I wouldn't call it great. It was really inexpensive for TONS of it. I bet breakfast is great there. They server it all day.
There is a drive-in across the street. I am gonna be checking it out this summer. ;-) Across the street to the south is some beef jerkey place. Apparently it is really good but I don't like jerkey - yes I did try it. Next time I am down that way I will grab a photo of the sign that talks about where to take your meat for processing.

New Fridge

I have an AWESOME refrigerator. Not only does it hold stuff like, 6 packs of uh, candy bars and anything you want to keep cold... (name that movie and I will give you my address)

it has LED lights!

It can hold 8 gallons of milk in the doors. Yes, I have tried it. When the closest grocery store is 10 miles away you will try it too. I never thought I would like having a freezer on the bottom

but I love it. It is so great knowing if I ever have a party...hahaha...there is room for platters in the fridge too. Darci, I have cheese for when you visit. ;)

Happy 3rd Anniversary

Yesterday, December 14th, was Rick's and my 3rd anniversary. Since we are building a home we decided to not spend much money. We went out to dinner on Saturday night and lunch on Monday. For lunch, we went to Chili's where we had our very first lunch date. We even sat in the same booth and I think we probably even ordered the same things.Yes - We are sitting on the Ox at Temple Square

Rick brought me some balloons and a mini rose bush. I have this now at work and it is my goal to keep it alive until our home is done so I can plant it on our garden.
Rick and I have an incredible relationship. I am so grateful for him and our 3 years of being married.

Thanksgiving 2009

A friend/family member mentioned today that she was "back-blogged" on her blog today. It made me giggle and realize, I have the SAME issue. I am going to try and catch up over the next few days.

Thanksgiving 2009 - It was fun!
We played tennis in the morning. We drove around with our balls (hehehe) and rackets in the front seat so they could feel the heat on them to warm them up. I made it through and entire basket and Rick only half when a string broke. My racket has been restrung twice since we bought it about 3 years ago but Rick's hadn't so I guess it was only time.
We went to Rick's sisters for a feast with lots of family. I always get teased that I am like an Asian with my camera taking photos of everyone and everything so this year i only took a few key photos.
We were home fairly early and just hung out the rest of the evening. I had a 5 day weekend and Rick had a 4 day one (he had to work on Sunday.) It was a very nice Thanksgiving.

Sirens at Treasure Island

I hadn't seen the Pirate show at Treasure Island in years. 2-3 years ago they changed it to the Sirens show. We decided to eat there and then watch the show. The meal was decent enough and the show...I thought my eyes were being burned out of my head! Those women were wearing less than what most women were wearing at our swimming pool. I found it all entertaining but between our jobs, we are NOT around that type of stuff. I don't think we will be going back to watch that show for a very long time.
We did meet some very nice Brits since ours weren't with us. (They are going on a Panama Canal Cruise as we speak.) There were 2 couples, one from Nottingham and one from Newcastle. For those of you that don't know, Newcastle is right near the boarder (where many of my ancestors are from) with Scotland so their accents were very Scottish. The ones from Nottingham, well they aren't 30 min from our friends in Leicester. We had a nice chat with them. They had been to Zion's earlier in the day and been to Salt Lake in the past. They seemed to be a bit scandalized, as we were. Seriously people...I would not let children see this show!

Little Caesar's

The first day in Vegas we decided to head out to find somewhere to eat.

We walked through Planet Hollywood, Bally's in front of Bellagio and into Caesar's Forum shops. We ate at some mexican restaurant there that was good.




Caesar's has add on to the forum shops during the last few years. Ok maybe it has been 5 years but I don't go to Vegas as often as I used to go. This area has twisting escalators. We were up on the 3rd floor and had to go to the bottom floor. It was a ride for my tummy. Yes I am that big of a wimp when it comes to heights.




Rick took this photo of me...I don't realize how long and how much hair I have until I see photos like this. It kinda freaks me out to be honest. My hair is naturally curly/wavy too.

In N Out

My blogs from our vacation are all over the place. Sorry. It is like my life these days...all over the place.

I have always enjoyed In N Out. Their fries are THE only fries I will eat with ketchup, not a lot, but some. Until this last trip I had never tried a cheese burger. MMMM It was so good.

During most of our visits to In N Out I hadn't tried their shakes. Back 6 years ago when I was engaged to Steve from Vegas, we went to In N Out and he ordered a strawberry shake. The heavens were opened to me that day. I had found ambrosia. Seriously, there have been times when I have craved a strawberry shake from In N Out. I have tried them at Arby's, Burger King, McDonald's, Chadders and so on but nothing compares to an In N Out shake. I had decided when we booked our trip I would have one every single day we were there, until I found out how many calories are in them.... 680!!! Let me tell you, those 680 calories are worth it but not everyday. =( I only had 2 shakes while on our vacation. I let the Dude have a few sips on the first one but the second, not a drop. And to think, there is going to be an In N Out just over a mile from me in less than a year!!

Salt Lake ReAl vs. Seattle Sounders

Last weekend my family from the Northwest was in town. We all attended the Salt Lake ReAl vs. Seattle Sounders soccer match. We had so much fun. The best part was that ReAl won!
Before the matching, everyone was invited to our house for food and hanging out. We had Cafe Rio type chicken salads. It turned out so well and I have the perfect salad dressing now.
We had some friendly guitar hero competition too. Whenever Rick and I play, we play co-op. This time we had some head to head competition. I played 2 songs. The first I lost but I won on the second. Here is the thing, I was playing on medium and my competition was on Expert or Hard. The funniest was playing Free Bird. Kenzie was playing against me. Half way through he decided he needed a drink so he handed the guitar to Marsh and Kenzie came back. I believe this gave me the edge to help me win but man after 11 minutes of play I was ready to take anything I could get! Kenzie wanted to know if I was going to pay for his carpool tunnel sugery after that song.
No fits broke out at the match but we did have some ReAl fans swearing at Kenzie and Marsh. Of course it was right by some children and the security guard got mad at them. It was entertaining.

Saturday was a fun day around our house.
