Our Rings

Sky Blue - Not Smurf Blue

Rick and I decided that if we are going to be living here for another year, which we are, that we needed to paint. Usually the first question I am asked is, are you allowed to paint? Well...yes we can. They told me that they will charge us $75 per wall when we move out but when we moved in we were given the option of painting accent walls so we will probably leave them and tell them that they were that color when we moved in. hehehe
I picked a lovely blue. At first I was calling in Smurf Blue. Rick didn't like me saying that. Now that it has dried...well it is sky blue. Almost the exact sky blue in my famous lavender festival photo which we have hanging on one of our boring beige walls. As you can see, the blue changes in the light depending upon my flash, natural light etc. It so far has been a wonderful blue and has really made us both happy to look at it. Also, I was able to use my panorama settings on my camera for the first time. (See the last room photo.) I look forward to using it more in the near future so watch out! For those of you that don't know, the flowers in the frame above the fireplace are the flowers from our wedding. I had them custom framed. Pretty cool isn't it?!
Rick did an incredible job on the trim. Especially next to the ceiling. I on the other hand, got a little too close to the wall.

Our Engagement

I decided to continue my story of Rick's and my meeting and "hooking up."
Rick and I started officially dating on Valentine's Day 2008. By May and probably even by April we knew we wanted to get married. I picked out my ring, cause Rick is cool like that in May. Rick I think had it in his possession in June. I figured that he was going to ask me sometime during the month of July.
So July 1st we had a long weekend with the 4th of July being on a Sunday. We had decided to go to Logan with Jimmy and Carrie to watch fireworks with Carrie's family at Utah State. Rick and I were driving up alone and Rick said that he needed to stop by the visitor's center at Temple square to pick up some pamphlets for home teaching. I thought, well uh, ok. We parked at Crossroads and walked to the north visitor's center. Rick got what he "needed" and we headed back out. As we were passing the big flower box in the middle somewhat north of the Temple Rick stopped to put the stuff away in his bag and whatever. I sat down on the wall of the flower box. Rick then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Now I will be honest, I used to remember exactly what he said but right now, I am not positive if he said, "Will you marry me?" or "Will you be my wife?" NO WAIT!!!
He was down on his knee and handed me a card. In it, it said something about a ring, like give me a ring sometime...he wrote in it "Look up" I looked up and that is when he was holding the box with my ring and was on his knee. I still don't remember what he said but of course I said yes and put out my hand for him. He slide my ring on, we kissed and hugged and all was good. I happened to see a couple walking past us watching and smiling. I thought it was great that a couple was able to see us and share our moment even though I have no idea who they were.
I will always remember exactly the spot where Rick proposed. It also happened to be across from a drinking fountain which was designed from my grandpa's tie-tack.
Rick and I headed back to the car then headed to Logan. We watched the fireworks from across the street from the stadium and had a great time with family. I didn't mention being engaged when we first got there but someone noticed my ring and from then on everyone knew. It was a great way to celebrate the 4th.

Check back later for photos as they are at home and I am at work.

Speed Walking

I am a tard. Not just kinda. Completely. Rick and I were watching Olympics tonight, speed walking to be exact. That is when I decided, I can do that. Boy was I wrong. As I took off towards our bedroom doing my speed walking imitation I ran right into the bedroom door frame. My toes went straight into the corner. I hobbled to the bed half crying, half laughing. I felt like such a dork and man did I hurt. Rick could tell I was laughing and in pain. He asked if I was ok. I said, yeah kinda. He replied, good cause I wasn't going to help you. So much for my knight in shining armor. hahaha So yeah, I won't be going to the Olympics anytime soon.

Something About Nothing

Maddy and I were discussing that some people out there don't update their blogs enough. We aren't naming any names but if you are reading this, you might know who you are. Yes I know you all have busy lives and don't have time like Maddy and I do spend blogging BUT still once a month? Seriously, everyone can find time to blog at least once a week.
I work 40 hours a week...well ok we all know that isn't true but I come to the office for more than 30 hours a week. =) That is why I try to get a blog in every 2-3 days. I know I don't always have things to talk about, or maybe I do and I just don't want to share it with you. That's right, not everything is here on the table, you might think that it is all but no. I can keep secrets. Not that I like to, but I can.
Alright...let's see what photos I can find to post with my randomness... Ok maybe they aren't all totally random. They are pretty much all of me. I know you all wish you could see more photos of Jeff Gordon driving his car and of me. How's that for a random layout? You want me to blog about something normal? Send me your comments!

Aunt and Cousin

My aunt Rebecca, as she prefers to be called and her oldest son Alex are in town this weekend. Becky, as I call her and since she "doesn't have time to blog" so she won't be reading this, came over and went swimming yesterday afternoon. Carrie brought over her babies and my mom came too. We had a fun time other than that the pool was SO cold and the air wasn't too hot to counter balance it.
After we went to Jimmy's house for a bbq. Alex just got home from his mission in Japan last month and will be going to BYU. He had a friend from his mission come down to hang out with us. She wanted to meet Becky...that's right, SHE. :) Her name is Erica and she is just the cutest girl. It will be interesting to see what develops over the next few months. hehehe

Stupid Cars

On Monday last week, we had the issue with the Subaru. We came out unscathed...not the case for our Toyota. That poor little car...
Friday night we dropped it off to get inspected so we could register it this month. Saturday morning while I was at the grocery store Rick called to let me know he had heard the diagnosis on the car. We figured we would need new tires and maybe a new O2 sensor since the check engine light was on. Boy was I wrong, the care needed a new cadalidic converter. (I have no idea how to spell that.) $1,044 dollars later we had our car back. It still needs new tires, new brakes and rotors but the guy was nice enough to tell us that we could come back in a month or so.
Then to top it off....this morning as Rick and I are heading to church we drive back the Corrolla and I realize, the bumper is hanging off the car. Not 30 min before this I had heard about Maddy & Drew getting rear-ended on the freeway on their way home from the airport last night and that their car might be totaled.
So Rick stops the car right there in the middle of the road and gets out. All the foam and padding stuff under the bumper was on the ground. That car had been pushed 2-3 feet! Fortunately the guy left a note. We were shocked. We proceeded to go to church, another story in itself and called the guy when we came back.
He is an Asian guy here for work for 2 months and the car is a rental car. He actually parked right next to us. His car barely has a scratch on it. Rick said that he was very nice and said that he dropped something and went to pick it up and that is when he hit our car. The police offer came to check it out, we had to have a case number even though it was on private property. Rick asked, how fast do you think he had to be going to make the car move that far? He said, "pretty darn fast".
We will be calling the rental car company at 7:30 tomorrow morning when they open and they should be getting us a rental car while ours gets fixed. Just not fun! I am glad that no one was hurt.

My Hair Cuts

I was speaking with Wayne, my best friend who happens to live in England, about hair styles. Wayne grew up in a family with many hair stylists so he has a pretty good grasp for what is stylish even though he isn't gay. Many years ago when Wayne and I very first met, I had just had THE worst haircut in my life. In fact, I think it was only a day or two after meeting Wayne. He knows me pretty well to know that I go from a short bob just above my shoulders to long like it is now. He is trying to help me find a new style for when the time comes that I hack off my lock for locks of love. I thought I would recap the significant hair cuts of my life for him...and if I have them, add photos.

Christmas 1986
My first official real hair cut was when I was 10, 1986. ( I cut my own bangs at some point when I was little but that is it.) It was the day before I started 4th grade. We were living on E street. My mom was pregnant with Marissa and she wasn't home at the time. Kelly who had been our nanny was with us and I talked her into cutting my hair. We took a stool outside and she cut my hair all off. Mind you, I didn't have that much. My hair was still very thin at this time and probably only a few inches past my shoulders. It just didn't grow back then. The hair cut was...not what I had wanted. Unbeknown st to any of us, I had curly hair and thick hair. Well it was thick once it was cut. I had SO wanted a short straight bob just like some girl who was in 6th grade but no. I wasn't to have that hair style. I didn't know how to straighten it or anything so I had fly away hair for awhile. I kept my hair short through 4th and some of 5th grade. Well at least my 5th grade pictures still have me with shorter hair. By the end of the year though I know it was getting longer.

Sophomore Year Photo
I didn't get my hair cut again until I was 14, 1990 Right after I graduated from 9th grade I was able to talk my mom into letting me get my hair cut. It was to be my graduation gift. Again, it was long but probably only midway down my back. My mom insisted that if I was going to have my hair cut, we went to a professional. She took me to a place in Sugarhouse called Robert Steur and Friends. She made an appt with Robert Steur and I think it took like a month for me to get in. Off went the hair and along with it $95! That's right $95 freaking dollars for a dang hair cut. I never went back there.
I had short hair through high school. Well shoulder length at least, which is short to me now. By the time I was a senior I think I started growing it out again.

Summer 1997
The next hair cut was in February or March of 1997. At this time I had some decently long hair. I don't remember what prompted me to cut my hair this time. I went to a girl who I had met through a friend. I don't even remember her name now but she was awesome! She was located at Capelli Hair on Highland Drive. When I went in she was shocked to hear that I was in the water 3 days a week. I just had super healthy hair. Several of the other girls had to check it out too. She decided that she wouldn't cut it as short as I wanted. She was afraid I would think it was too short.
Fall 1997
She cut it just barely above my shoulders and told me to come back in a week if I didn't like it. I was back in a week. Again like the previous times it was a bob. I now knew how to take care of it though.

I again grew my hair out for a bit, until late summer 2001. The last hair cut story...well I am a bit ashamed to tell it. To make the long story not so embarrassing I will sum it up...I met a guy and he talked me into cutting my hair. Now don't get me wrong, I was happy to do it. But I don't think I would have even thought about it had it not been for this dude. And that is what he was, I cut it and he bailed. It was a horrible hair cut. I had to get it all fixed by someone else and in the end, I looked dang cute. I kept it short again for awhile, including for Maddy's wedding in 2002. I don't exactly know when my last major chop was. I think I did keep it fairly short for a few years.
May 2002

As most of you know, I have wait length hair now. It is a lot of hair too. As Wayne knows, I will cut it again someday. Just not in any rush to do it though.

Mad Stalking Skeels - I Haves Them

At work we have recently had some dude threatening us. He wanted us to pay him $5000 for coming to visit our property and the possibility of him providing a loan on it for some infrastructure construction. He was more than an hour late to the appointment and all sorts of other crap so we decided after doing some googling that he probably wasn't real and that is why we haven't sent the money. He has since been threatening to sue us for liable and breach of contract and whatever else he thinks about. He is just a big bully as far as I am concerned.
Yesterday I decided to do a little research of my own. We found his name on a website called the rip-off report. I was able to find out who the person was that posted the report. It really wasn't that hard but no one else had taken the time to check it out. I was able to get her hoem phone number so that we could call her directly. After a little phone call, we found out that he did to her pretty much the same stuff he has been doing to us.
I went a bit further though...I am pretty sure I found him on classmates.com, and his wife on facebook, along with his home address. As some of the guys here pointed out...it wouldn't be a good thing to make me angry at them. I already have way too much dirt on them.
Mad stalking skeels...yep, I has them!

My Subaru

So I have this Subaru. I like my subaru. It has been a good car. It has taken us to California several times and kept me from being stuck in the snow more than once.

So I have this Subaru. I hate my subaru. Ok maybe I don't hate it. I sure don't like the parts that break though.

On 08/14/07 I had the alternator replaced. Today is 08/12/08. The subaru is now at the fix it place, having the alternator fixed....AGAIN. I am SOOOOOO happy it was today and not this Friday, which will be 08/15/08 and there would be no warantee on it.
Last night I was driving home from Harmon's when the radio stopped working. I thought, dang. No more radio. The guages then went a little crazy jumping around. I stopped to get the mail and thought...maybe I shouldn't do this. Then I thought, no it is too hot for me to walk back out here I will just turn off the car and grab it.
That's when I couldn't start the car again. I called my visiting teacher to come and give me a jump since I was parked in the red zone and Rick was going to be at work for a few more hours. She came right over and of course the car started right up. I was able to back into my spot. This morning Rick came home from work to jump the car. As soon as it was shifted into gear, it died. We tried this a few times. Rick was finally able to get it to move. We made it about a mile then it died and we started all over again. This time we almost made it to the light. There is a huge intersection just before the fix it place. 12300 south and the frontage road for those of you familiar with Draper...right were Flying J, Panda and all that stuff is. Rick pulled the car into the parking lot at Fazoli's to charge it up hopefully enough to get it through the light. We waited for about 7 min then pulled the cables off. While Rick was putting them away, the car died. It was having none of this. We decided to take the other car over and say...Help!. The guy was cool and said he would get it from there. (I guess they took a battery charger over and attached it and drove back with the hood partially open. It was crazy.) Something that should have taken about 15-20 min ended up taking more than an hour. That is why I don't like cars. I really do like cars, but I wish I could just get a new one every 2 years and have a lease so it was always under warantee. That would be nice.

Next time your car makes odd sounds, like high pitched screetching, or flashes it's lights at you...get it checked out. You never know when it is going to say, enough is enough.

Jimmy the Pirate

First of all I need to thank Carrie and my brother Jimmy for letting me play so much with their kiddos. They are so adorable! We didn't have the camera out last night but baby Katie was giving Rick the biggest smiles. Seems that he has already won her over. While he was playing with her, I was off with Jimmy 3 to check out the zip line.
Every year my mom has a ward bbq. I have always enjoyed going so I always go back. It is so nice to see all these people who I grew up with and that love me as their own child. I so miss my mom's next door neighbors.
So back to my story...
The ward bbq takes place in the stake property to the north of Skyline's tennis courts. There are all sorts of things there including 2 baseball fields. It is lower then the parking lot so the zip line is set up from the top near the edge of the football field and runs down across one baseball field all the way out into far outfield. Probably more than 400 yards. I thought that little Jimmy might be too small but thought we would check. He wasn't. The harness was really large on him, all the way up to his armpits but he could still go. He was about the 5th or 6th little kid to go and by far the smallest.
I asked him over and over if he was sure and every time he told me yes. We told him that he needed to hold on to the rope. I told him to hold on to it like a pirate holding his sword and that going on the zip line was like a pirate jumping between boats. He thought that was great.
One of the kids in the ward was great and lifted him up onto the rope and another was waiting at the other end to help him. When I went to get him in the middle of the field he had the harness off. I said, do you want to go again. He said yes. He couldn't walk with the harness on it was so big! He took off and ran up the stairs to get ready to go again. This time he just cruised.
Alan Hyde in my mom's ward also decided to ride the zip line. Now the reason this is so amazing is because he is like 80 years old! What a sport!
Rick and I left before my mom did with the babies but she told me today that Jimmy was trying to go again before they left. What a good pirate Jimmy is going to turn out to be. Capn' Ris will be proud.

How Rick and I Met

I was emailing with a friend from high school today who asked how Rick and I met and got together. I thought that would make for a fun blog.
Rick started working at CR England in January 2004. I think it was Jan 12th or 14th...how do I know? I was the one who approved the invoices for the recruiter. I was checking him out when he first started but didn't really think anything more of that. We became friends, like you do with people you work with and that was all good.
In October Rick finally asked me out...I said No. I wasn't going to go out with someone I worked with. He actually had only asked me to go to lunch with him and I still said no. He asked me a second time and by now I had learned his true age. Initially I thought he was about 35. He was really closer to 45 at the time. I told him that I couldn't date guys closer to my mom's age than my own and I offered to set him up with my mom. He didn't like that so much.I know he asked me out a third time and again I told him no. I told him that I didn't date non-LDS guys. Christmas came around and Rick bought these awesome gift baskets from a lady who sold stuff at work. I told him that if he gave me one I would go out with him. He didn't like that either.
So here comes February...The Friday before Valentine's day 2005 I was chatting with Rick. He asked if I was going to get lots of flowers and I told him no I wasn't going to be anyone's Valentine. He told me that he really liked sending flowers to girls. I went back to my desk and emailed him and we decided to be each other's Valentine's. There was a lady who sold flowers, balloons and chocolates there at work for Valentine's. I decided to get him a few balloons and some chocolate covered strawberries. I made it very clear I did not want any of the balloons to say love on them. We also decided to go to lunch together...good ol Chili's by the E-center.
Rick sent to me THE most incredible long stem red roses. Not only were they long stem, there were 2 dozen of them. I was told by many people that day I had the best flowers. (Sorry the photo isn't so great. I didn't have a digital camera by then so I had to use my cell phone camera. Yeah, can you imagine ME without a digital camera?!)
We had a nice lunch and decided to do it again.
Rick and I started talking on the phone every night but I wouldn't let him come to my house. One day in fact I told him that I was going to paint. He offered to come and help. I lied to him and told him that I didn't feel well enough to actually do it that day. I hung up the phone and proceeded to paint. I just wasn't into having a boyfriend and I told him so. In fact the first time he took me out in the evening, I took Marissa with me!
Rick and I continued to go out to lunch together more and more. We would try and go out separately so people wouldn't see us together. Of course some people did cause they had no life and needed something to gossip about but the bosses, they didn't know and that was what mattered.
The first time Rick told me that he loved me we were driving back from lunch at Chili's. I remember I was the one driving and we were driving on the overpass over 215 just north of the E Center. He said, I love you. I said back, I wish I could say that I do, but I don't. He told me that it was ok because he had been thinking about it a lot longer than I had.
By May Rick and I knew we wanted to get married. We became engaged on July 1st 2005 (another story) and here we are...Married on Dec 14 2006 and happy as could be. (our actual wedding is another story too!)So Rick is one of those who you can't get mad at for having cold feet. He was much more ready for things than I was. I thank Heavenly Father every night and every morning that he was so willing to be patient for me and to put up with my crap. I love you Rick! (Not that he will ever see this unless I send it in an email to him hehehe)

Breaking Dawn & Batman - no spoilers

I have had a pretty darn good weekend. It started Friday afternoon when Maddy was able to find the first 14 chapters of Breaking Dawn. I started reading it while at work and finished up sometime in the evening. Since Rachael had given us some spoilers the day before I was able to relax as I read. This is the first time with a book I have ever heard spoilers or started reading early. It was the first time I ever had a copy early for that matter.
Saturday I was able to relax and not stress about getting a copy of the book the minute Costco opened. (I am too old for the midnight releases of books and movies now.) After picking up the book I was able to come home and just read pretty much all day. I even got in a nap.
Rick and I headed over to Jordan Commons to see Batman. I really enjoyed it. I think that Heath Ledger did a great job and I really wonder that if he had not died if people would still think his performance was that great. Yes it was good but just a thought. I also learned that Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon! Yes that's right, Sirius Black is Commissioner Gordon. Now that is some fine acting if you ask me.
Also, I still think that Christian Bale is hot and all that BUT he SERIOUSLY needs to get that mole by his right eye removed. Don't give me any of this, it is sexy crap. It is ugly! I know that he could have it removed in just a few min, have the stitches gone in a week and no scar. Do any of you see any moles on my face? NO! Do you see any scars? NO! That is because I had a good plastic surgeon take my two moles off. Ok...I really do have a tiny scar from one. The dr let the intern take one of them off and stitched it too tight. I had to go back and have some of it removed again, nevertheless, I bet none of you have noticed that scar.
Back to my original point... get the mole removed.
Back to my reading...I finished around 11:30pm Saturday night. I personally thought Breaking Dawn was a great book. I will wait a few days before posting any spoiler type information. Let's just say...I liked it and how it ended. I say poo poo on all those who don't like it and if they don't like it for "technical" reasons, I say POO POO GET A LIFE...IT IS FICTION!
So anyway, today was the usual church with our kiddos whom we love and then we saw several of Rick's family for a bit. I sure love them!
And now it is time to think about starting another week...Good Luck everyone!
